What is Fall Ball
The fall ball season at East County Little League is design to be focused on the fundamentals of baseball and softball. This is a perfect program if you are new to baseball or softball, moving up into a new age group or just want to improve your ball skills.
In the Baseball/Softball divisions, the season consists of twelve games beginning the week of Labor Day and continuing through the month of October. New this year is a fall ball tournament at the conclusion of the regular season. As this is a developmental league, seeding for the tournament will be done at the beginning of the season. The tournament is an opportunity for players to show off what they’ve learned throughout the fall season. Throughout the tournament coaches are encouraged to stop play to demonstrate and explain the fundamentals to their players.
In the Pee-Wee division, the season consists of six games beginning the week of Labor Day and continuing through the month of October. The Pee-Wee division will not compete in a tournament. The Pee-Wee division will be strictly coach pitch, with the use of the tee after five missed pitches.
Coaches are instructed to work on the fundamentals, and keep minimal stats on games and players. This information will be used to identifying the areas that players may need some added instruction on. The coaches will do their best to provide this additional instruction during the games and practices. They may also provide this feedback to the parents/guardians of the player to reinforce their skills outside of the season schedule.
Umpires will be calling the games, and granting more time for coaches to provide instruction during the games, as well as passing along to the coach’s things that they see that will help improve the player’s skills. Umpires will not be used in the Pee-Wee division.
The league, coaches, umpires, and staff of ECLL are here to provide a fun, enjoyable and safe fundamentals focused season during the fall ball season and we hope you choose to join us in a wonderful fall tradition.
